Taken Spaces is a collaborative exhibition between Leela Schauble and Madeline Bishop. The works will explore human presence among environments from which they are either visually absent or uninhabitable, considering alternative representations of human existence and experience. Schauble’s video works were created on an artist residency to the Arctic Circle and focuses on uninhabitable natural landscapes and the results of human interactions within this space. Bishop’s photographs aim to capture human traces within spaces where people are physically absent, considering what is left behind in mere seconds or over decades. The works both aim to understand our impact on the world around us and our place among the grand narrative of our planet.
