The Perth Centre for Photography was established in 1992 as the Photography Gallery of WA. PCP is Perth’s only dedicated photographic arts organisation. Our aim is to promote and support emerging and established photo-based art in Western Australia. We offer an environment that promotes an understanding and appreciation of contemporary photographic practices. In conjunction with our outstanding exhibition program, PCP has developed a range of initiatives including competitive awards, and a broad and engaging education and outreach program aimed at supporting photographers who wish to expand their practice.

PCP acknowledges the Noongar people of the Bibbulmun Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which our gallery is situated, and the many Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia. We acknowledge First Nations Peoples as the Traditional Owners, Custodians and Lore Keepers of the world’s oldest living culture and pay respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

EXHIBITIONS

PCP exhibits the work of emerging and established artists from local, national, and international backgrounds. The program includes individual and group shows, popular competitions promoting landscape and portrait photography, as well as an annual fundraiser. PCP welcomes proposals from all artists practicing in photography and related media. PCP accepts exhibition proposals throughout the year. A panel of arts industry professionals decides on successful applicants based on a set selection criteria.

EDUCATION

PCP regularly conducts artist talks and invites all exhibitors to speak publicly about their work in the gallery. Our workshop series is facilitated by artists who are recognised as experts in their field, these offer a great learning experience for photographers of all levels.

PCP also runs a seminar program that integrates technical and practical aspects of photography with critical accounts of the medium. We partner with local schools, and have developed education initiatives to enhance visual literacy and connect with the photographic community in Western Australia.

PARTNERSHIPS

Our ongoing community commitment extends to partnerships with local, national, regional, First Nations artists, and community programs.
