Artist Bio
Caitlyn Anderson was born and raised in Singapore but has been residing in Perth for the last 15 years. Photography has been a passion of hers for many years, film being the medium of choice for her work. Although majority of her work has been hobby and freelanced based she is working at hopefully transitioning into making photography more of a full time pursuit. Over Caitlyn’s time as a passionate amateur photographer she has completed a cert III in Photography and has studied Darkroom development at TAFE. Street photography and documentary style photography are both forms that she has had interest in since a very young age but in the last two years or so has incorporated portraiture into her portfolio. Major inspirations to her include Francesca Woodman and Vivian Maier, two woman who made photos with no intent, only the passion for the art form. Creating images that capture moments of beauty or that show case people who inspire her creativity means a great deal to her and allows the excitement and joy of taking photos to continue. Using the media of film has been something Caitlyn has been passionate about, it allows her to put trust into things that can sometimes be out of ones control and is able to stay present in the moment while doing something that she loves.
Artist Statement / Description of artwork
Old Order, taken near Niagara Falls, captures a moment of curiosity for the artist, who encountered Amish individuals for the first time. The image shows three Amish women, varying in age, sitting with their backs to the camera. The eldest holds a plastic water bottle and cotton candy, a contrast between traditional attire and modern items that intrigued the artist. The bright blues and browns of their clothing, set against the greenery and softened by mist from the falls, create a harmonious yet contrasting palette. This image reflects the artist’s fascination with the blend of tradition and modernity.
