Artist Statement / Description of artwork
Based in the heart of Perth, the artist finds inspiration not in the city’s historical landmarks but in its often-overlooked modern buildings. In the photographic exhibition Invisible Cities, inspired by Italo Calvino's novel, the artist captures these unremarkable structures from consistent street-corner angles, using architecture to timestamp each era and challenge their “invisibility” in public perception. Above each building, the artist adorns the skies with diamantes, re-framing the stark, modern facades and inviting viewers to see beauty in the ordinary. The diamantes, like Kintsugi repairs, highlight the elegance of imperfection. Through Invisible Cities, the artist encourages a fresh appreciation for Perth’s overlooked urban landscape.
