Artist Bio
Laura Ward is a multidisciplinary artist practising and living in Boorloo. She explores themes of the human body, identity and spaces that possess human presence. Ward is set to graduate at the end of 2024 with a Double Bachelor of Visual Art and Photomedia from Edith Cowan University. Throughout her studies, Ward has worked with photographic screenprinting, painting, drawing and various photography practices. In 2023 she began shooting with a 120mm Bronica camera and fell in love with medium format photography.
Artist Statement / Description of artwork
Position is part of a landscape series Inhabit which explores empty places that are usually busy, chaotic and full of life. Depicting an empty sports field, viewers are encouraged to ask questions. What games are played? Who attends the games? Where is everyone? Who sits in those chairs?
