Bio
Andrea Bryant is a Canberra-based photo-media artist whose practice focuses on elevating and transforming the commonplace within our everyday environment through abstraction. Working predominately with black and white photography, the artist often juxtaposes disregarded materials in our lives with the beauty of the natural world, reflecting on the destruction we wage on the environment. The artist often uses infrared photography to explore notions of perception and reality, blending the tangible to create a glimpse of the intangible.
The artist has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Canberra and Melbourne. In 2023 she held her first solo exhibition at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre. A lens on the lake was a series of abstracted moments exploring life around Lake Tuggeranong in Canberra. Shot predominately with an infrared converted digital camera, the surreal scenes are part of a broader project by the artist, focusing on the health of Canberra waterways and their direct environments.
Statement
The LESS structure is a piece of public art that sits in the Diary Road precinct in Canberra, It was designed by the Chilean architecture firm Pezo von Ellrichshausen.
This image of the LESS structure comes from a broader photographic series called ‘Dairy Flat’ which was shot using an infrared converted digital camera. The series redefines the way we look at our landmarks and cityscapes, offering a fresh interpretation that upends the traditional viewpoint and offers a hint of menace and otherworldliness.
