Bio
Dr Jacob Canet-Gibson (b. 1997) is a practice-led artist and researcher based in Australia. His work which spans photography, videography, soundscapes and installations focuses on deconstruction and the brute forcing of technology to produce novel results. His research explores intersections between studies into the preconscious, critical theory, postmodernism, and optical lens technologies. These intersections reflect his recently completed doctoral research — FUTURA: The sublimity and disquiet of mass reproduced digital photographs — undertaken at Curtin University and supported by the RTP scholarship. His artworks have been shown at STILL: The National Still Life Award, IRIS Portrait Award and CLIP Landscape Award. In 2020 he was awarded Emerging Australasian Documentary Photographer of the Year. Working with USST (China) he produced two monographs and a short documentary. In 2024 his film HAUNTATION appeared at the REVELATION International Film Festival. His work is held in private collections in Australia and Japan.
