Bio
Melissa Drummond is a Melbourne-born, Kalgoorlie-based documentary photographer and artist, with a background in earth science. Her work sits at the intersection of mining and the natural world, often exploring the influence and impact of human activity, documenting quiet, abandoned, and degraded environments.
Melissa has worked throughout regional Western Australia for over a decade, contributing to a wide range of community-based exhibitions, projects, and events. Her artistic practice is grounded in place and observation, using photography to tell stories that are both personal and political.
Statement
Taken at Wooleen Station in the Murchison region of Western Australia (Wajarri Yamatji country), this photograph is part of an ongoing interest in everyday Australian spaces. It draws loosely on William Eggleston’s embrace of colour and the ordinary, observing quiet moments of intimacy in places shaped by memory, light, and domestic ritual.
