Artist Statement / Description of artwork 
From a young age, Nan Hoki shared her culture with my older brother and I through stories, song, and dance. This sparked a latent desire in both my brother and I to continue educating ourselves about our people and allowed us to be who we are today.  
In her later years, Nan Hoki was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, causing her memory to slowly deteriorate over time. The main things she remembers, however, are related to her culture (the people, stories and songs).
