Bio
Born and raised in Boorloo/Perth, Evie Muir works in photography, printmaking and drawing. Muir has been creating since childhood and was awarded for Visual Arts in high school, which inspired her to continue her studies at North Metropolitan TAFE as a Visual Artist. Muir is set to complete her Advanced Diploma of Visual Art at the end of the year.
 
Driven by an interest in everyday settings, Muir investigates how these scenes can be transformed through colour and perspective. Muir strives to find compositions that show the unexpected and bring pleasure to the viewer.
 
Statement
Photography allows me to depict my surroundings how I choose. I enjoy the slowness of analogue photography and choosing my shots with intention. My subject matter favours Australian urban landscapes, with my current focus being my home suburb of Falcon, Western Australia. I love the surprise of a new film stock and the results I’ll get. Working in this way allows me to embrace to unexpected and come up with new ideas for my practice. I want the viewer to be intrigued by a simple setting displayed in a way that’s new to them.
 
Cans with flash (V2) explores how an everyday scene that may be overlooked can be made interesting. It's an invitation for the viewer to begin noticing the oddly beautiful moments that occur in our daily lives. This image was taken on my small point and shoot on a tungsten film.
