Bio
Joshua Walters (b. 1988, Sydney) is a Bavarian–Hungarian–Australian artist and transdisciplinary practitioner whose work unfolds at the confluence of cryptography, visual expression and embodied research. Their practice engages the arcane logics of cryptographic art with a particular focus on geo-cyphers and the use of hidden storytelling, encoded into visual and spatial frameworks.
Photography forms a vital strand within their practice, explored through experimental realism and microscopic investigations of integrated circuit architectures. These works collapse the boundaries between documentary and abstraction, revealing technological landscapes as both intricate design and encrypted terrain.
Their broader practice merges material and digital processes to interrogate how information is encoded, concealed and revealed. Sculptural constructs, pigment installations and generative systems become experimental sites in which data is spatialised, histories are re-coded and encrypted logics manifest in tangible form. Inviting audiences to encounter layers of concealed meaning as both interpretive experience and cryptographic challenge.
Statement
IC-133 documents the exposed interior of a dismantled integrated circuit. Through chemical stripping and magnification, the internal geometries once sealed beneath silicon are brought to view. The work considers technological opacity and the physical intimacy required to access what is designed to remain unseen.
